Note of Thanks. Much effort went into our Christmas celebrations. We have many people to be proud
of who work behind the scenes. The music ministry and decorating committees were exceptional. A special thanks to Karen Barletta for her help in decorating and also to Michael Arisco for donating all our beautiful poinsettias.
SeniorSocial Due to last week's snowstorm it was necessary to cancel the Senior Social. The next Social will be held on Sunday, January 17th from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. All Seniors are welcome!
Women's Club The next meeting of the Women's Club will be on Thursday, January 14th at 7:00 PM. We will have a speaker from Carolyn's House, followed by an auction to benefit the scholarship fund. Items can be donated to the club. This is a great way to use that Christmas present that wasn't quite right or that you can't use.
March For Life/Pilgrimage to Washington, D.C. Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 Join us on pilgrimage to Washington DC as we gather with hundreds of thousands from throughout our nation to pray and publicly witness so that hearts and minds may be opened to the Gospel of Life and laws may be changed to reverence all human life. Buses will be traveling to DC from all over the Archdiocese as well as one from the Franciscan Life Center in Meriden. For more information and to register please contact Noreen and Ron Pearsall (203-272-8661).
Family Perspective. Because Jesus did not tell his parents his plans to stay in Jerusalem, Mary and Joseph were distraught and probably felt negligent and guilty. Like the Holy Family parents today operate with the same deficit because children don't disclose all their plans. Despite the centuries, the problems of parenting are the same.
Reflection: On Home Blessings On this Feast of the Epiphany, the day when Jesus revealed himself to the non-Jewish world in the persons of the Three Kings (wise men, magi), it is customary to bless the homes of the faithful. It is simple to do. A prayer of blessing is said by the head of the family; incense may be burned. Then, using chalk, a cross, the initials of the three wise men and the year are written over the front door or main entrance. For this year it would read: +BCM 2010. The blessing prayer can be as simple as "Lord, bless this home and those who live here". Or, the prayer of blessing the Church uses: Blessed are you God our Father, for the gift of this house as the dwelling place of this family. Grant that those who live here may obtain the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Through our works of charity let us show what grace your blessing brings, so that all who visit this home will find the spirit of love and peace which only you can give. On the table in front of the ambo (pulpit) are some envelopes with some incense and chalk. Take one. Bless your home. // It is also the traditional time for gift giving. You can close the Christmas season with one more gift to someone in memory of the gold, frankincense and myrrh given to Jesus. May the peace of Christ be in your homes and upon all who visit you during this holy year.
